Perhaps from a legal standpoint, I know that having devloped Fraudbug, if a site moderator determines what is or is not posted, then the site owner/moderator can be held legally liable for the content and its damage, much like a news paper. If the content is published by a 3rd party or consumer in this case, that party is liable. This creates a non-liable state for ripoffreport, it would be like trying to sue the inventor of the printing press for damage from a story from a news paper printed on it. Perhaps this was Ed's reasoning. As soon as you allow retractions, the system could turn into a "racket" where people/copnsumers could game the system and post, then remove complaints for compensation. This is why Fraudbug does not allow retraction. I agree however though that people do post things in anger, and may need to remove content either for safety reasons legal or other. This is why fraudbug.com has an "update Complaint" function, to allow a consumer to state retraction of a previous statement. It will not remove the original complaint however nor will it be removed from Google. People do a lot of things out of spite or anger without fully considering the long term implications. Either way, Google will not deindex the information even if you could retract the complaint, which is usually what the business are most upset about, the story may still show up on Google for years depending on its crawl rate and casch. So even retraction is somewhat moot. The main difference between Fraudbug and Ripoff Report is that fraudbug pays back a selected charity with the advertising revenue made from a complaint. Recently Ed Magedson or some of his internet thugs have been trying to tarnish the reputations of several reputation management firms like ReputationAdvocate.com, RemoveYourName.com, ReputationMedia.com, ReputationHawk.com, and my friends at ReputationArmor.com (And Many Others). Any complaints you see online about these companies are complete BS and lies most likely from Ed Magedson or anther Reputation Management company that is bed with rip off report. Someone needs to step up and organize a plan to deal with Ed Magedson and rip off reports. The first was LIB, for Long Island Beat. It was smaller in size and competed against Parlee, which is still around. This is going back possibly as far as 30 years ago. The reputation I heard at that time was that he had threatened to burn an establishment if they didn't carry or advertise in his magazine. LIB didn't last. Then, an individual named Joe D'A (Joe was dishonest and a jerk but who knows, maybe he changed so I'm hiding his name) thought there was a need for a gay newspaper and launched the LI Connection. He soon found he had no experience in this and it showed, so he then felt it best to bring in someone with experience to help run it, so he found Magedson and made him a partner. The two clashed and accrued debt. I can't recall if the paper came out weekly or biweekly. Finally the debt became so huge that D'A offered to give Magedson the publication if he would take on all the debt with it. Magedson agreed. Issues seemed to get bigger and bigger, until one day, employees showed up at the offices on East Carver St. in Huntington, NY to find the locks changed. They had been screwed out of salaries, you name it, but that was nothing compared to what Magedson had pulled with bar owners. He had gone to them offering unbelievable deals if they would pay for several months up front, cash. Many did, and he fled with it. Magedson had vanished completely from Long Island, word being that he was upstate NY putting the revenue he absconded with up his nose. This stunt was real ballsy, as many of the bar and disco owners on Long Island had rumored ties to the mafia. Lenny Kraft, for instance, owner of Starz in Deer Park, owed the mob money and was so terrified he blew his brains out. That was the last I heard of Magedson until I recently discovered ripoffreport. We did not pay the employee $50.00 of their final paycheck. We did this as agreed to stop us from pressing charges. The $50.00 was for the merchandise stole by them. After telling the ex-employee that we may proceed with with legal action they emailed or contacted ripoffreport.com and admitted it was a lie and was false. Rip off reports "admin" said they will not remove it at all - ever! Why not remove it if the user who submitted it admits it was a lie! I wish I had their real address so I can sue them.
